Called to be a light to the nations, let us pray for God’s justice, peace and healing

Gracious Father God, we thank you for the gift of scripture. We marvel that ancient words have soul refreshing effects today. We pray for the Saad family, the family we call “ours” who fled danger in their homeland Iraq and had a rock thrown through their window in Glenside. We pray for the rock thrower who suffers with fear and anger. We pray for ourselves because we are frail humans who feel anger or self-righteously superior to the rock thrower. We pray for Your Kingdom on earth and in our neighborhood. Lord in your mercy

Prayers of the Church, January 8, 2017

Called to be a light to the nations, let us pray for God’s justice, peace, and healing.

Pour out your spirit of unity, triune God. Renew our lives in the promises of baptism. Hold us together as a congregation of faith in the oneness of the body of Christ. Empower us to be one as you are one. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Pour out your spirit of wisdom, holy God. Guide our government officials and military leaders as they wrestle with complex situations. Grant them courage and compassion to work for peace in every nation. We pray for the safety of our military, our police and our emergency responders who risk their lives to protect us. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Prayers of the Church, January 1, 2017

Rejoicing in the good news of Christ’s birth and dwelling in hope, let us pray for the church, those in need and all of creation.

As we welcome the new year Lord our most fervent prayer is for peace. Peace in our homes, in our neighborhoods, in the nation and throughout the world. Lord in your mercy.

Holy Father help us to see our part in bringing peace. Let us never forget your commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves. Open our hearts so we not judge by race, religion or political beliefs but be as Jesus was caring for all people. Lord in your mercy.

Prayers of the Church, December 11, 2016

As we anticipate the fullness of the presence of Christ, we join with the church throughout the world, praying for all who are in need.

A brief silence.

We pray for the church and all messengers of the gospel, for all who call upon the name of the Lord, and for congregations throughout the world. We pray that you Lord will work through us to bring harmony and reconciliation in this trouble times. Lord our God, we are your children, who come before you and stand in your presence. Be with us and be our light in all situations of life, in all hardships and grief and in all our joys. Let us pray. Have mercy, O God.

Prayers of the Church, November 13, 2016

With the people of God gathered here and throughout the world, we offer our prayers for the church, those in need, and all of creation.

Almighty and ever-living God, we give you thanks for the men and women who have served and defended our country and the values of freedom and justice we hold so dear. And we give you thanks for the men and women who are serving now in our military, 1 % of the population of this country. Help us be mindful of the sacrifices they made and make, the hardship endured by their families and friends, so that we never take for granted the privileges they have secured for us. Have mercy O God
