Prayers of the Church, August 21, 2016

Remember the Sabbath day. Call the Sabbath a delight. This is the Lord’s day, and the Lord will do for us what the Lord does: feed us, forgive us, help and heal us. Rejoice at all the wonderful things God is doing.

Prayers of Intercession

Rooted in Christ and rising to serve, let us pray for the church, the world, and all in need.

1) Gracious God, we praise you on this Sabbath day for the wonderful place we call our church home. We come hungry for spiritual food and in need of your healing and blessing - for us and our church family. We praise you for the cool temperatures we are enjoying in your sanctuary and in many of our homes and pray for those who are suffering in oppressive conditions. Bless our ministries that offer food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted. May our light rise in the darkness and let the glory of the Lord rise among us. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Benevolent God you are the source, the guide and the goal of our lives. Teach us to love what is worth loving, to reject what is offensive to you and to treasure what is precious in your sight, through Jesus Christ our savior and Lord. Hear us O God.

Abba, your children are bombarded with commercials telling us that if we just buy this or that we will have happiness. The scripture readings for today are applicable, abundance of possessions is vanity. Keep us mindful of what is really valuable. Hear us O God

Prayers of the Church, July 17, 2016

Leader: We come now to the time where we bring our prayers and petitions before the Lord. After each petition, I will pray “Hear us O God.” Please respond with “Your Mercy is Great” Rooted in Christ and rising to serve, let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

Who may ascend your Mountain, O Lord? Who can stand in your holy place? Before the foundations of the earth – before the stars and cosmos, you were. At the end of all days, you will still be. You are constant in our ever-changing world. Though we are but a vapor, Lord – you are. You adorn us beautifully like the flowers of the field and care for us as your Children. We praise you this morning for who you are, everlasting God, and thank you for your ever-present care. Help us to remember you are with us always, in all times, and all places. Hear us O God… All:Your mercy is Great

Prayers of the People, July 3, 2016

Let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation……

Loving God, you teach us in today’s lesson to bear one another’s burdens to fulfill the law of Christ. We celebrate the young people and adult leaders of the Appalachian Service Project who have taken on this mission of service with joy, compassion and determination, and have come home to us changed forever by their experiences, and changing others by their example. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, this past week so many church members were your heart, your hands and voice as we brought your message of love and mercy to 150 of God’s children in our community during Vacation Bible School. May we all be receptive to the call of service and grow in faith. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord, we pray to you today in thanks for the wonder of your creation, and the responsibility on our shoulders for caring for this world that you have entrusted to us. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord, we pray to you today in trust that you will bless your servants among us – our pastors, our lay leaders, our vacation bible school teachers and volunteers, our ASP team, our musicians, and all who worship here together – commission each of us for our ministry in daily life. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
