Prayers of the Church, February 19, 2017

Called to be a light to the nations, let us pray for God’s justice, peace, and healing.

Glorious creator, we give thanks to you Lord God for this day of rest and refreshment. Thank you for this beautiful morning and the wonderful taste of spring in February. "For this is the day that you have created for us and we rejoice and are glad in it." Help us present our hearts and our lives as living sacrifices before you. Lord in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, thank you that your Son loved us even when we were the enemy, and that he prayed for those who killed him. Teach us to be merciful like You, and do good to all people, even to those who we consider our enemies. Help us to love those we feel are unlovable that we may look at everyone through the eyes of love. As the Jesus taught us, help us to live as if we are "kingdom subjects." so we might live out our God-created identity. Inspire us to live generously and graciously toward others, the way you live towards us. Lord in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Sovereign God, Make the church in every land holy as you are holy. Join the voices of rich and the poor, young and old, friends and enemies, in praise of you. Orchestrate harmony among us. We lift up our nation's leaders. Help them and us to "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood." May we all strive to genuinely understand the needs and welfare of others. Guide our new administration as they make decisions affecting our people as well as immigrants and refugees. We pray for an atmosphere of caring, and positive problem solving. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

God of all nations, let there be peace on earth. Peace in war torn countries around the world. Peace in Pakistan and comfort in the wake of the recent shrine bombing that killed worshippers there. Peace in Syria - an end to the bombings where we see heart wrenching photos of wounded children and others. And peace in our country; peace in our cities. We pray for an end to the hatred. May protestors do so with a spirit of peace while they make their voices heard. Protect our military and comfort them with the knowledge they are loved and supported by you and this community. Protect and give sanctuary to the refugees, the local people, and all who suffer because of violence. Guide the leaders of nations to make choices that lead to peace. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Gracious God, enliven all your church worldwide by your Spirit to grow into the name bestowed on us in baptism. Bless our newest ( baby ) brother in our church family, Aiden Coder. Bless his family and godparents and all who will influence his life as he grows in faith. We ask for your blessing and guidance for our Pastors Dyan Lawlor and Keith Anderson. We thank you for the service of so many in our congregation who spread your love and donate their talents, time and money. Bless the Flea Market volunteers as they work hard this week to host a successful event to raise money that helps so many. Lord in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Compassionate God, you know our pain and our suffering. Give refuge to all who suffer, that they may endure in hope, trusting that you are with them in their darkest hour. We lift up those affected by the deadly storms in southern California. We pray for all who live with cognitive or eating disorders. Strengthen those receiving chemo therapy or are recovering from surgery. Restore the addicted and those who know no family; comfort the mourning. We pray for those on our prayer lists and those we name in spoken word or silent thought. Lord in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Eternal Father, We give thanks for all the saints who have witnessed your resurrection. We pray that all who have died will find peace and eternal life in your heavenly kingdom. We pray especially for Nick Bond, a high school senior who passed this week and for his family. Breathe your spirit of peace into them and send your reassuring love to all who grieve. May our memories keep us steadfast on the path you want us to follow until that day when we all gather at the river with all the saints gathered there. Lord, in your mercy,

hear our prayer.

Receive these prayers in the name of Christ, the light of the world, who is one with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. - Kathi Neal
