Prayers of the Church, January 8, 2017

Called to be a light to the nations, let us pray for God’s justice, peace, and healing.

Pour out your spirit of unity, triune God. Renew our lives in the promises of baptism. Hold us together as a congregation of faith in the oneness of the body of Christ. Empower us to be one as you are one. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Pour out your spirit of wisdom, holy God. Guide our government officials and military leaders as they wrestle with complex situations. Grant them courage and compassion to work for peace in every nation. We pray for the safety of our military, our police and our emergency responders who risk their lives to protect us. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Pour out your spirit of peace, resurrecting God. Bring all who grieve into a community rooted in you. Take us by the hand, uphold us with your grace and keep us all grounded in your promise of life eternal. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Pour out your spirit of love, glorious God. Help us to serve our neighbor with free and willing hearts. Sustain all who knit prayer shawls, sew projects and provide housing for homeless neighbors. Surround those who seek warmth and shelter with grace-filled advocates. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Pour out your spirit of justice, gracious God. Heal the pain of all who are victims of crime, acts of terrorism or disasters. Be present with those who are imprisoned and with those who minister to them. Reconcile broken relationships within communities. We pray that you will heal our struggling spirits and our frail bodies, bring comfort to those who are lonely and those who live with financial insecurity, job loss or are under the power of addictions. We pray for those on our prayer list and for all those whom we name now in spoken word or silent thought……. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
