Let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation. (A brief silence.)
Gracious God, we pray for the church. Keep it faithful to you, so that your people here stand in witness to proclaim how much you have done for us in Jesus Christ. We
pray that we, your Church, be a people who listen to you with all our hearts and minds, a listening people who can receive what is good and true for our lives. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for the well being of creation. Tend and nurture plants and animals, lands, seas, and skies. Restore the vitality of lands and waters suffering from human misuse or natural disaster. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for the nations. Work in and through governments, humanitarian organizations, and local partnerships to cast out the forces of evil and establish your life and peace. Unite us as one people with all your children, as one people who want to serve you. We pray, Lord, for our country. Make our nation known through out the world as an example of tolerance and of love, of sharing and of peace, of justice and of compassion, not only toward its own citizens but also to every nation and peoples on the earth. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. We pray especially for those on our prayer list, for the homebound, for our pastors, for our congregational partners in foreign lands, for the members of the Armed Forces who are serving here at home or in harms way in far off places, for those who are suffering from overwhelming life issues, and for those that you have placed upon our hearts today. Good and gracious God, hear the names of those persons that we now lift up before you silently or aloud. (A brief silence.) Compassionate God, we know that we are never alone in our difficulties but can receive strength through you to help us in the struggles and toil of our life. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, we pray for fathers everywhere. We ask your blessings on those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Bless those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father. Bless those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Bless those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children. Bless those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's lives. Bless those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing. Bless those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their stepchildren's love and respect. Bless those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart. Bless those caring persons, male and female, who have provided a fatherly figure to children lacking a father’s love and care. We praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for our congregation. Establish and renew our faith, strengthen our ministries. Keep the gifts of your Spirit alive in all of us. Keep alive in us everything that Jesus Christ was, everything he is, and everything he will be on earth for all people. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
