WHAT IS THE CATECHETICS FAITH JOURNEY?

The ministry of Catechetics instruction for youth in 8th and 9th grades as well as older youth who have not yet been confirmed is a two year program of learning, sharing, serving, and having fun while we grow in faith and discipleship together.

  • Three sessions of classes are held each year on Thursday evenings, 7-8:30.  There is a ten week session in the Fall which begins mid to late September each year, a five week session in the Winter, and a three to five week session in the Spring.  Classes are taught by our pastors and small group discussions are led by loving, caring, and fun volunteers! AND.. We have time each week for fellowship and snacks!!!
  • Servant Projects offer opportunities to put our faith and love of God into ACTION!
  • Students learn about the gifts God has given them and share those gifts in varied ministries of the church, in their homes, schools, and in their world.

Our Fall Retreat builds community and offers enrichment to the Catechetics Faith Journey.

Catechetics Curriculum

We are excited to share that we use the, "Here We Stand" curriculum,  published by the Lutheran Publishing House, Augsburg Fortress!

"Here We Stand" is an interactive curriculum centered on Scripture, Luther's Small Catechism, and focused on walking the road of discipleship.  It features an interactive Student Site rich with lots of resources and fun things to do all of which enhance our students’ learning experience.

Catechetics Two Year Curriculum Rotation

 Year (2006-2007)

Fall Session, 10 weeks: "The Apostles Creed"

Winter Session, 5 weeks: "The Lord's Prayer"

Spring Term, 5 weeks: "Identity"

 Year B (2007-2008)

Fall Session, 10 weeks: "The Ten Commandments"

Winter Session, 5 weeks: "The Sacraments"

Spring Term, 5 weeks: "Worship"

A special Good Friday Liturgical Drama performance by students is a moving and powerful witness to the love our Lord has for all people!

At the end of two years, students are given the privilege of affirming their faith and the baptismal vows which were taken for them as babies or younger children. We call this special time "Affirmation of Baptism" or "Confirmation".  These young adults then become voting members of our congregation.
