First Holy Communion

At UDLC, children may receive First Holy Communion at any age. Often parents make this decision when their children ask them when they can eat the bread! The sacrament of Holy Communion is a gift from God!  At UDLC, families have two options for receiving First Holy Communion, as described below.

Individual First Holy Communion

A family can contact either pastor regarding their child receiving First Holy Communion, as an individual. The Pastor will visit you at your home, meet with you and your child, pray and share the varied resources we share with all children who are getting ready to receive their First Holy Communion. You can then set a date and worship time for your child to receive First Holy Communion. This special time for your child will be shared in the bulletin for that day. Your child will receive a red boutonnière and a First Holy Communion pin to wear, and a beautiful First Holy Communion certificate.

Group First Holy Communion

Many children enjoy the fellowship of receiving their First Holy Communion as a group – thus this offering to our families. In the spring of each year, our 5th Grade Sunday School class and their teachers, in conjunction with a Pastor, present a Family Education Gathering about the Sacrament of Holy Communion, during the Sunday School hour. This is a wonderful family experience, where children and parents even get to rehearse receiving Holy Communion! A pastor is present to answer any questions you might have. Families receive packets with all our Holy Communion resources at that time, and are encouraged to read them with their children. Children also make Ceramic First Communion plates at this gathering.

Sign- up Forms for this Group Gathering will be available on the Youth Table, Main Entrance, beginning mid- February. All students must register, as we need to know how many printed resources and ceramic resources we need for this gathering.

Each spring, we celebrate Group First Holy Communion at the 10:30 Worship service. This special time for your child will be shared in the bulletin for that day. Each child will receive a red boutonnière and a beautiful First Holy Communion certificate, suitable for framing.
